Abstract

Semantic theory of fields is based on the assumption that words in language do not exist in isolation but form the lexico-semantic fields (LSFs) with other words that are semantically related (Becker & Bieswanger, 2006). Synonymy belongs to the group of paradigmatic lexical relations. Krebt (2017) notes how subtle distinctions among synonyms impact language learners' proficiency and emphasizes how context influences which synonyms are more appropriate, underscoring that synonyms often differ only in connotation and collocation. Abdulkhaeva et al. (2021) similarly delve into the nuances of synonymy in English, emphasizing the importance of register and collocation in distinguishing between near synonyms. A synonymic row represents a set of lexical units/lexical items which are related on the basis of similar sense relations. Each member of the synonymic row is related to the other one by the common semantic feature / component.
