Abstract

Independent work of students is a fairly broad and versatile topic of theoretical and practical research. In educational institutions, it’s difficult to achieve everything during training sessions and with the help of teachers. Study time is relatively limited. Therefore, the study of part of the educational material is planned in the process of independent work. In research, educational material intended for independent study and methods of its assimilation through independent work can be determined.

The formation of some skills and abilities may take a long time and be required individually. In this regard, part of the research is devoted to the achievement of such qualities, for example, speed reading, mastering foreign languages on the basis of already known knowledge, the ability to create high-level written texts, etc. (Kozlovsky, 2004).

The formation of some abilities and skills can be more effective in the process of independent work, for example, studying specially defined lexical material. In such cases, research is devoted to the organization and planning of independent work, memorization methods, and memory development.

Independent work can also be considered as preparation for independent solving of professional problems, for example, theoretical knowledge is acquired during training sessions with a teacher, and the practical application of this knowledge is trained in the process of performing independent tasks in a real situation. Independent work is also of great importance for preparing for creative work, where you need to solve problems for which there are no known solutions (Kravchenko & Ogienko, 2008).

Our work examines the problems of the formation of reading skills and abilities in a foreign language, due to the needs of a significant number of specialists in the modern information age. Such learning goals are largely individualized, that is, they depend on the individual qualities of students, their previous training, specifics of professional activity, etc. Therefore, the achievement of these goals, both during the student's studies at a higher specialized educational institution, and after the completion of such studies during the period of professional activity, is mainly related to independent work. In the process of forming reading skills and abilities, provided that the student has already mastered the basic lexical material in the basics of foreign language grammar, attention is paid to complex syntactic constructions of the foreign language, especially if similar syntactic structures do not exist in the student's native language. Also, you should additionally work with multi-word sentences that are found in texts in a foreign language. Such sentences can be overloaded with a significant number of additional elements, often with the aim of clarifying and individualizing certain aspects of the content. However, such sentences can significantly complicate the perception of the text, especially for those readers who do not have sufficient command of a foreign language.

Therefore, to optimize reading skills, it is recommended to work on finding and analyzing such sentences in original texts in a foreign language, as well as forming psychological readiness to perceive such sentences by forming a habit of similar features of texts. But the assimilation of complex syntactic constructions and multi-word overloaded sentences, the ability to analyze and understand them, and subsequently the formation of strong skills contribute to the fact that reading texts in a foreign language becomes a more creative work. Now, the processing of texts in a foreign language is to a greater extent connected not only with the search or assimilation of the necessary information but also with the birth of new thoughts, and new ideas, which can appear both directly during such work and in the process of further understanding of the acquired information.

The above-mentioned competencies may be even more needed by specialists who work with a large number of texts in a foreign language, use such texts to search for ideas, consider information as a source for the birth of new thoughts, necessary for solving complex problems in the process of professional activity. Various aspects of such work can become the topic of further research on the peculiarities of professional reading.
